The same documentation discipline ICC applies on industrial projects, scaled to property managers, HOAs and commercial owners.

03 — PROJECT APPROACH

Three inspection stages, fully documented

Coating quality is decided long before the topcoat goes on. ICC establishes hold points at each stage so non-conformances are caught while they are still inexpensive to correct.

STAGE I

Surface Preparation Inspection

Substrate condition, soluble salt and chloride testing, abrasive cleanliness, surface profile per ASTM D4417, and ambient conditions verified against the specification before any coating is applied.

ASTM D4417 · SSPC SP STANDARDS
STAGE II

Primer & Intercoat Application

Mixing, thinning and pot-life verification, wet and dry film thickness per ASTM D7091, recoat windows, stripe coating and repair of pinholes and runs documented coat by coat.

ASTM D7091 · MANUFACTURER PDS
STAGE III

Final Inspection & Report

Holiday detection, adhesion testing per ASTM D3359, cure verification, punch list resolution and a traceable closeout package the owner can file and audit years later.

ASTM D3359 · NCR CLOSEOUT

07 — COMMON QUESTIONS

Coating inspection questions we hear most

What does a third-party coating inspector do?

An independent coating inspector verifies that surface preparation, application conditions, film thickness and cure meet the project specification — documenting each hold point so the owner has objective, auditable proof the coating system was installed as specified.

Do you provide NACE certified coating inspectors?

Yes. NACE and SSPC merged to form AMPP, and the former NACE CIP credential is now the AMPP CIP program. ICC's principal holds AMPP CIP Level 3 Senior certification with Pipeline, Bridge and Fireproofing specialties.

What areas of California do you serve?

ICC is based in San Ramon and serves the entire San Francisco Bay Area — Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, Concord, Martinez, Benicia, Vallejo, San Jose and surrounding counties — with statewide travel available by request.

Can you help our shop earn AMPP QP accreditation?

Yes. ICC performs gap analysis, develops the required documentation and prepares contractors for QP1, QP2, QP3, QP5, QP8 and QS1 audits, including mock audits before the certifying body arrives.

Can you inspect confined space and immersion-service tanks?

Yes — digesters, clarifiers, water tanks and interior linings are a core sector. Inspection covers surface profile, holiday detection, adhesion and immersion-service cure verification under confined space entry protocols.

Why did our coating fail early?

Premature failures usually trace back to surface preparation, contamination, application conditions or an unsuitable system for the exposure. ICC performs forensic failure analysis per ASTM and AMPP methods and delivers a written root-cause report with remediation guidance.
